About.About the Pembrokeshire Lupus Group.
|
We provide support for those with lupus, their families and friends not just in the Pembrokeshire region, but those under the same Health Board, that is Hywel Dda UHB. We have members who attend Withybush General Hospital at Haverfordwest, West Wales General Hospital at Glangwili, Carmarthen and finally Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
Our purpose is to give a local focal point to sufferers of lupus.
We hold regular meetings and informal coffee and chat sessions, throughout the year.
We also aim to keep our members informed and educated about lupus and the latest developments in its treatment etc.
We hope to have some interesting speakers in the next coming year.
The various links here on our website are also valuable and extensive source of further information.
We have a library of books from LUPUS UK about lupus which members can borrow and read. This service is free.

Regional Coordinator - Wendy Diment
Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and explain how our group came about.
I was diagnosed with SCLE, a form of lupus, in October 2013. I later discovered in April 2017 that I actually had Systemic Lupus Erythematosus but I had to travel to London to get that expert second opinion. I joined LUPUS UK shortly after my diagnosis and found their website and information very useful. I also became a member of the online support group on Health Unlocked, administered by LUPUS UK. This support was invaluable to me and still is. I met someone from Pembrokeshire, in that online support group and we quickly became good friends, meeting regularly for coffee or lunch. We realised that there must be more people in Pembrokeshire living with lupus, that may feel alone and misunderstood, like we had. There was not a support group in our area. So we liaised with LUPUS UK and with their brilliant support, our first Pembrokeshire Lupus Support Group meeting was held in September 2017.
I now arrange our formal meetings, our coffee and chat sessions and our Facebook support group as well.
We are a group of strong, determined people who have quickly become friends and are able to provide much needed support to each other.
Providing support for people with lupus and raising awareness is definitely at the top of my agenda, along with our campaign to achieve better access to expert lupus care for those living in Wales. I am currently running a campaign and petition to raise awareness of the issues we face here in Wales, as a result of the devolved Welsh NHS.
If you would like more information about the group, please feel free to contact me using the contact page and I hope to meet you soon.
